Alpha
This week we made the following high level changes:
- New UI appearance and enemy sprites
- Volume slider at bottom right
- Icons and shop window can be dragged
- Ability tooltip in shop with explanations
- New worm boss
- Shortened levels
- Center of screen timer display
- New cursor abilities:
- Wrecking ball
- Healing field
We wanted to start making the theming more cohesive by using consistent textures for UI elements so that the environment feels more like a computer desktop. It was also important to add ability tooltips so the player has a better idea of what abilities do before purchasing them. We also added a new boss and shortened the amount of levels between bosses so the player can have a more varied experience without having to grind through multiple levels. New abilities give the cursor player more options and also the healing field encourages more interaction between the cursor player and antivirus.
Going forward, we hope to work towards making the antivirus feel more involved in the game by introducing more abilities that encourage cooperation between the antivirus and the cursor and also adding more consequence to the antivirus dying, possibly by removing its ability to respawn during a round. We also hope to add more visual effects for the antivirus shooting and damaging enemies to improve the feeling of impact.
