From Wikipedia: In April 2014, Glu announced that it would shut down the legacy GameSpy servers on May 31, 2014, so its developers could focus on work for Glu's own services. Games which still use GameSpy will no longer offer online functionality or multiplayer services after the shutdown. While some publishers have planned to migrate GameSpy-equipped games to other platforms (such as Steamworks or in-house services), some publishers, such as Nintendo (who used the GameSpy servers as the basis of its Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection platform for DS and Wii games) will not, particularly due to the age of the affected games.
R.I.P. Gamespy May 31st, 2014
On May 31st, 2014 Gamespy's servers will be shut down. This comes after all of IGN's subsidiaries were axed by Ziff Davis Media.

Hey Matty guess you decided to check out what I told you..
Yeah it's a sad day indeed no more Multi-Player on games I love :(
Like DoW1
If anything, public LAN programs(or whatever they're called) like Tungle or Evolve could amend the issue.
Yeah lets hope so Comrade. Lets see what happens, Maybe even Valve could step in? Who knows.
we are gonna lose battlefield 1942 and 2, halo custom edition, and much more.
this is so sad.
not to mention battlefront 1 and 2 as well as EAW and FOC
Damn... We will loose almost all Star Wars games' multiplayer function.
And SWAT 4 :(
were gonna loose everything. oh well hamachi here we go..;_;
We are loosing everything..
Everything is already lost :'(
Damn... Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142, Battlefield 1942... all gone. Wow.
nop
Those bloody game companies never let us have fun anymore! They make sure to make their new games impossible to mod and the old ones get outdated and unsupported so that we should play the newer games. The old games had potential and were made by mainly good developers who actually cared about their games - look at Westwood, for example: They made live-action cutscenes for Command and Conquer 1 and RA1, also they made great music and gameplay for those games. EA only screws everything up, they make bad music, bad gameplay, bad graphics (even BF4 since those weren't much new) and only offer us expensive DLC without proper customer support. Why am I even using Origin anyways? How will I survive without my favorite games online? The new gaming generations are so stupid, no one cares about what the COMMUNITY thinks, every company only cares for MONEY!!! I FUCK1NG HATE YOU EA!!!
Well Said Brother. The new age gaming companies are nothing more than greedy pigs. They only care about rushing a game with bleeding edge graphics but implement a **** story and laskluster gameplay leaving you bored with it soon afterward. Their #1 priority is to hype a game to empty your wallet as fast as possible.
Sad news. Luckily, Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy will not be affected!
See this post on JKHub for more information: Jkhub.org
That's a big relief. I have to admit that the Star Wars games were concerning me a lot (I mean I became a gamer as a kid because of the classics 'Tie-Fighter FTW'). Here's hoping that some sort of unofficial servers get adopted for Battlefront 2.
Yet another reason to start betting on indie companies... until they grow big enough to become the next generation of the establishment. Rinse and repeat.
Yes Kalga that is a sad Truth.
I mean EA at one time was a beloved company remember that?
Now look at them.
I remember that I loved EA when I was younger, it was the best company ever! Look at those bastards now, they betrayed all gamers.
1000's still play Battlefield 1942 online, what's the point of Forgotten Hope Secret Weapons without multiplayer? :/
Well EA said they will take over their Legacy titles.
But will they require origin and allow modding is yet to be seen though.
Yeah, heard about this a little while ago. Looks like Frenzied-Metalhead and I aren't going to be able to try out Arma again. Not to mention Battlefront. I was just getting into the online too.
I always get bummed out when **** gets taken down.
This is not good, think of all the games with gamespy being away...
Fun fact: Steam had Bad Company 2 on a sale a few weeks ago (two weeks ago I guess) and I finally got Vietnam. Nice sale, Steam.
Too bad. Crysis 1/2 Multiplayer will no longer played.
OK, everything is going ****. I'm getting tired of all those companies that they only care about money! Not only gaming companies, everyone! Even Microsoft ended Windows XP support, and Windows XP is still my favorite system! All they want is money, nothing else. If you take a look on all Old-School FPS games, the developers were nice people and they even shared what they were doing at the time of the development. They shared jokes, they released what was un-released and many more... Take a look on Doom, for example, how many good reviews and talk John Romero does about it... Those were real developers. Not only because they were so nice with us, but because of their games too. Doom is still an alive game after 20 years of it's release and the modding community is still ultimately strong! Now, developers create un-moddable, expensive games, with a crappy plot, crappy gameplay and super crisp 1948050x1604909000 pixel graphics. Their customer support and attitude is also horrible.
Great, with those developers in our hands, we are pushed to their own crappy games. I'm not going to be pushed in anyway, my answer will always be the same "Keep trying".
