Are you passionate about creating immersive and thought-provoking games? We’re building ZeroTrace, a cyber-hacking simulation game with a focus on depth, atmosphere, and strategic gameplay—and we need talented individuals to join the team.

About the Project: ZeroTrace is set in a world where information is power, and hackers are the unseen forces shaping society. Players will navigate the underbelly of a dark, oppressive city, breaking into corporate networks, exposing secrets, and fighting to remain anonymous.

Inspired by the strategic depth of games like Bitburner and the tension-filled mechanics of Welcome to the Game, ZeroTrace challenges players to outthink their adversaries while exploring a city that is both gloomy and beautiful—filled with mystery, threat, and the ever-present watch of authority.

What We've Built So Far:

  • Grid-based Desktop Simulation: Players interact with a fully functional desktop, managing files, folders, and tools in real-time as they explore and hack systems. Files can be renamed, moved, or dragged into directories, with dynamic file management to keep the desktop clean and functional.
  • Drag-and-Drop Mechanics: Intuitive dragging of files and directories, with logic to prevent conflicts and ensure smooth interaction with the game’s file system.
  • Immersive Hacking Mechanics: We’re building a rich, strategic hacking system where players must infiltrate networks, bypass firewalls, decrypt data, and avoid being traced. The gameplay focuses on tension, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
  • A Beautiful, Gloomy World: Unlike the neon-lit cyberpunk cities you might expect, ZeroTrace takes place in a more grounded, dark, and oppressive world. The city is shrouded in perpetual gloom, but its intricate design and atmosphere create a strangely beautiful, haunting experience.

Where We Need Help:

  • Gameplay Programmers: We’re looking for developers who can help build out our hacking systems, from network infiltration to interactive in-game tools. If you have experience in Unity and C#, we’d love to collaborate.
  • UI/UX Designers: Design immersive interfaces for the in-game terminals, hacking dashboards, and file management systems. We want to make every interaction feel authentic and tense.
  • [No longer Needed] 3D Modelers/Environment Artists: Help us craft a city that is oppressive yet captivating. We need talented artists to bring this gritty world to life through atmospheric environments and detailed props that capture the essence of our setting.
  • Writers and Narrative Designers: The story of ZeroTrace revolves around more than just hacking—it’s about uncovering the truth in a society on the brink of collapse. We’re looking for writers to create missions, dialogue, and lore that drive the game’s deep narrative.
  • Cybersecurity/Hacking Experts: We are also looking for individuals with experience or knowledge in cyber security, ethical hacking, or network infiltration to help design authentic and challenging hacking mechanics that feel grounded and realistic within the game.

Why Join Us:

  • Collaborative and Creative Freedom: You’ll have the chance to bring your creative ideas to life. We value collaboration and new perspectives, and your contributions will directly shape the game.
  • Explore a Unique Setting: This isn’t your typical neon-lit cyberpunk world. The city of ZeroTrace is a place of shadows, intrigue, and hidden beauty—a setting that offers endless possibilities for creative exploration.
  • Learn and Grow: Whether you’re an industry professional or an aspiring developer, there’s room to expand your skills while working with a passionate team on a project that’s as rewarding as it is challenging.

How to Get Involved: We’re looking for passionate developers, designers, and artists who want to work together on something special. If you’re interested in contributing to ZeroTrace, send us your portfolio, GitHub, or just a message explaining why you’d like to be involved.

Together, we can bring this dark, beautiful world to life.
