Once there was Raycasting Game Maker. A very limited but relatively popular in some communities game constructor. It could offer a raycasting engine with a simple editor to make Wolfenstein-like first person shooters.

RGMNext is an engine reimplementation of RGM, allowing you to run RGM games in higher resolution and with proper mouselook, while also fixing some bugs.

The engine doesn't use any of original source code so it might be incorrect in some parts. Still it has high compatibility with RGM games and aims at porting all features of RGM.

Main features:

  • Higher screen resolutions
  • No problems with mouse
  • Fixed annoying inability to open more than one door at once
  • Supports games made with RGM 5 as well
  • Comes with enhancer to make your old games more fancy

To run games you will need .pak files, cutscene pak (cs.pak) if provided and sndrsc folder (if provided). The simpliest way is to just unpack RGMNext right next to the original exe file. run Configurator and then run the engine. If game paks have different extension, just drag and drop the first one on exe.

TL;DR: THIS IS NOT A GAME. YOU WILL NEED TO FIND GAMES MADE WITH RAYCASTING GAME MAKER AND DOWNLOAD THEM FIRST.

This is a port for those who know what RGM is, have played games made with it before and wants to play them again with better graphics.
