One of my very most favorite games! Thank you!
Nice game, have played 443 hours
Not even an indie, no updates, and recently just pops out with 2000 visitors in 1 day INSTANTLY. This is so lame and fake. You guys are cheating and you don't even bother that it's too obvious, coz you think no one gives a damn about it.
What do you mean by "no updates"? New content has steadily been released for the game since launch and the most recent was only last month when an entire new state was added, along with changes to the base game map and additional "mechanics" for AI traffic events.
A reddit post here: Reddit.com
But this is definitely an indie game - what do you consider indie?
I guess indie today is a start-up studio with low budget and small team relying only on their own money. Technically (if "indie" = independent)this company can be called an indie, but in real just having no publisher doesn't necessary make it true indie. But in the same way we can call Valve an indie studio, although they make AAA.

But this is a big studio, they have more than 35 people involved, high budget, high profit on their games. Their stuff isn't far from AAA. They seem to be overly successful - do they really need this website to compete with homemade and free games?
And what's more confusing is that they came instantly on top of the hill, having so much traffic on their page in just 1 day without uploading updates, news or just any content, with the last update made 1 year ago, while having totally no interest or visits the day before. This is obviously suspicious. I'm not even talking about the other games in the top list. Some of they are kept on top for months, having only 200~ something watchers. How is that? The ranking algorithms on IndieDB have changed, they are different from MODDB's ones. Before you had to make lots of updates to get on top. Now it's no matter how many things you upload, the update times only counts once in 24 hours, but in the same time it highly depends on the page traffic and visitors count. This is a bad idea. So these games creators create traffic to their pages to be always on top. You would argue and say that they have a high interest from players and etc. Okay, high interest, trending game. But they have a Steam page and Steam community. And no updates on IndieDB for months. So why people have to bump the IndieDB page with visits if they've got nothing new on IndieDB and they also have a Steam Community, which is far more suitable for players and more convenient for them?
We keep track of stats and penalize cheaters and the visitors here are legitimate. They have a huge community they can rally.
In terms of indie, it's definitely a grey area. The days of small self-funded indie teams are done. Most games seem to have a publisher these days, and quite often the indie success stories (like this one) go on to become big companies. Does that mean they shift from being indie to not. I'm not sure, it's a good point of discussion.
Well, they stop being indie the moment the dev companies become big... or too big. Although that little nasty label "indie" hints at independence and "independent" funding, everything is always dependent on something (self-dependence is not quite self-dependent either, there is no such thing as complete independence or self-dependence) so it only proves that labels (AAA, indie) are crap.
As a rule of thumb, always considering indie games to be games developed by very small teams whether with or without help of publishers. The amount of support publishers can provide also varies, so it is very hard to tell how "indie" game is.
(Yeah, that means ATS doesn't make the cut anymore.)
Thanks for checking them. It's good to know that projects are monitored. But maybe this needs some changes here. Games with huge communities will always be on top this way, thus leaving small indie projects without attention.
Yes, indie games development more often tends to become a big business these days rather than just a creative process of enthusiasts. What was modding in the old times becomes a commercial games development today.
Will give it some thought, because we hate top charts personally and how bad they are at surfacing great creative content
That would be great. Thank you!
