Description
A Quiet Life is a 2D point & click adventure with escape room mechanics, following the daily lives of two housemates in a reality where every individual possesses a special ability. We take the perspective of one of these characters, conducting routine activities while being able to rewind time and experience past activity through sound. This is a somewhat inconvenient, yet very useful ability to avoid explosive traps accidentally laid out in the surfaces touched by the other housemate.
History
The concept of A Quiet Life started from an idea to implement the classic minesweeper mechanics on different contexts. Through speculation, a decision was made to explore these properties by adapting them to realistic, day-to-day situations. In that regard, the game kept the idea intact through "mined" surfaces that explode on contact.
However, there was a need to give the player some way to distinguish these surfaces from the ones that are safe to touch, through a probability system akin to the one seen on minesweeper. For this goal, a rewind ability was created, having suffered multiple adaptations to reach its current state.
The need to develop a narrative that justified these properties came naturally. Having that in mind, it was defined that the game should be a 2D point & click adventure. This would allow the team to better present the connection between gameplay and the ridiculous narrative that shapes it, while also eyeing eventual adaptations to handheld, touch platforms.
