As such, it not only works with (and requires) Windows 95/NT 4.0, but it also adds new features not found in the version published by id Software. ZDoom may be used and distributed free of charge. No profit may be made from the sale of it. ZDoom was created by Randy Heit using id Software's and various others' sources.

Sorry, I updated instructions.

Basically install "DOOM + DOOM II" on Steam, and the Doom 2: Ray Traced launcher will find it.

If it can't, place "doom2.wad" from DOS version of Doom II into the same folder as gzdoom.exe

-FIXED: by copying an original WAD from 1995 -these newer adaptations might make minor modifications to wads

I also copied newer rt directory from the latest version from github rtgl1.6.3 over old one
-------------

does not work placing doom2.wad in the same folder with gzdoom

it says please reinstall steam doom blabla
you made it Steam only?

The launcher shows DOOM 1 and 2 but only 2 is playable. Is that normal or should DOOM 1 be accessible?

It keeps giving me a "very fatal error" every time I try to launch it. I followed the steps exactly. I have DOOM1 + DOOM2 installed, I extracted the gzdoom-rt-1.02 and clicked the exe. Then it instantly crashes. Help?

Hi trying to use this with a mod that has voxels I've done the conversion as suggested and the folder vox2gltf has been created. Complete noob here how do I use that folder of converted files?

the voxel mod already comes pre-installed. you don't need to do anything but play it.

Did you just reply because you like the sound of your own voice? Your reply is not helpful at all!, it's annother mod that includes voxels "Doom EXP" When I run Doom II Ray Traced with this mod, I get the message "Found .kvx/.vox voxel models. Expect REALLY BAD PERFORMANCE. Please convert to .gltf using '-vox2gltf' argument" IF you don't have any idea on how to use the converted file don't bother to reply!

it already comes with dlss 2 and 3 but if you want a specific one, you can get it from nvidia if you google it, then replace the specific files on the mod

Seems to be some sort of negative mouse acceleration, can it be turned off? Using the same sensitivity as normal GZDoom but slow movements are basically cancelled out at high DPI.
Edit: Nevermind, GZDoom behaves the same, dunno why I never noticed it before. in_mouse 2 fixes it.

nice. just a quote here what in_mouse 2 stands for: "New 'raw device' input mode. Set in_mouse 2 to bypass DirectInput and talk to your mouse device directly. We have seen bad interference from various software, and in general you might get more reliable / better quality mouse input with in_mouse 2."

Is there a way of using this through Doom Runner with the version of Doom/Doom2 I already have? Do I have to buy Doom again for the hundreth time? 🤣

yes, you just add it to doom runner as you would any other gzdoom version. then if you wanna use rtx remix with it, you open the gzdoom-remix.bat with notepad and copy that code into the "additional command arguments" bar at the very bottom of Doom Runner. Simple.

I dont have the steam version but it does load the doom2.wad but comes up with "Forcing incompatible WAD" and says "Light date for ray tracing will not be available".

So when I play some things work but mainly wall missing and other weird graphical problems. So does this mean I have to buy the steam version which now is based on the kex engine.

Any advice. Thank you.

Not sure what I did but it crashed and can no longer run, same with after reinstalling and changing the directory. Also imported the Doom 2 WAD from Steam with no luck

This is the error gzdoom gives before starting up (which crashes before launching now):
Code: C0000005 (Access Violation - tried to read address 0000000000000008)
Address: 00007ffbfb5da9b1

Followed all directions, broken as hell, errors out the arsehole, very disappointed.

I'll iterate. I am running an AMD 7800X3D, a 7900xt 20gb, 64GB DDR5.
how in the hell is this constantly crashing for me? I own Doom 1+2, I tried using the 1995 WAD Files, and I also used the new RTGL Files.

I found a solution and here is a step by step guide for AMD GPUs:

* Download gzdoom-rt-1.0.2, unzip/exctract it to a folder gzdoom-rt-1.0.2
Put DOOM2.WAD in gzdoom-rt-1.0.2

* Download gzdoom-rt2.ini from here
Gist.github.com
Put it in gzdoom-rt-1.0.2
(or if you already have it, set rt_fluid=false)

* Run gzdoom.exe
* Answer No to proceed without NVIDIA DLSS since you are on AMD
* Enjoy the game

It is also discussed here:

You can actually use other iwads and mods. You just have to get creative with the command line switches and the gzdoom-rt2_portable.ini file. Set up mods you want to use in the ini file. I copied the command line stuff from the mod compatibility bat file, made a new bat file then added the -iwad switch to it. Note that none of the fancy lighting has been pre-applied to these maps like they were for doom 2. Often this can lead to textures not showing up or other graphical glitches.
