The Type 99A2 is currently China's most powerful tank, which adds new Relikt-type ERA, active laser defence and the first hard-kill protection system (APS). The first test vehicle entered service in 2007 and was tested through 2009, around 124 of this variant have been built so far. The tank is also fitted with a digital battle management system with color display screen and digital maps for tactical awareness for the commander. This enables the tanks to share cruicial tactical information with other tanks of the platoon. This highly increases the combat efficiency of the paltoon in combat.
It also has an independent commander's thermal sight and automatic target tracking (ATT) system which enables the gun to automatically track and shoot on the move at enemy targets with pinpoint accuracy. This highly increases fire accuracy against moving targets.
