My model looks quite a lot flatter than the concept! I had trouble getting the proportions of the model to match the concept, so I ended up going with this flatter design (even so it looks flatter in this image than it actually is, due the perspective of the camera).
I ended up creating a boolean on the base, because I did not want to have wasted UVW space (which equals wasted texture space), due to intersecting geometry.
Even using Pro-boolean required some cleaning up after ward. Some modellers do not like to use boolean at all. Others will use the subtraction only. Not many like the union action, and I can understand why.
Now I will unwrap the model.
I plan on using 2x512 textures like I always do with large base defences. This is over the top for sure, but I prefer the extra sharpness in detail that having 2x512 allows.
Has is always the case with generals concept models, this is a practice model (the main purpose this time being the actual modelling), it is possible that this might be the initial part of a defensive modelling series, or maybe not.
