It's clearly a Z-95 headhunter with a custom paint scheme.

With quad lasers, but yeah.

I'm sure it still opens into the X-configuration, but still... nothing was wrong with X-Wings as it was. There was no reason to update the look.

They better not screw up Imperial craft though. I can live with derpy Rebel/New Republic ships but the Empire/Remnant's perfection cannot be improved upon and J.J. better not try.

Well chances are one could add on additional lasers to a Z-95 headhunter so I don't quite see why people think it's meant to be an X-wing? Example there are Z-95 headhunters with 4 engines and ones with only 2. Starwars.wikia.com vs Starwars.wikia.com there are even some that had been outfitted with X-wing wings all together based on the Star Wars wiki so adding dual lasers to each wing shouldn't be that impossible...

Furthermore I don't think these will replace X-wings as much as add variety and make Star Wars feel a tad more realistic. Also look at the price difference between the two! (Z-95 vs X-wing) Then consider how many people might not be able to afford a X-wing but could buy a Z-95...

I'm pretty sure (but not certain) that it was confirmed that this is the new X-Wing design, and not a modified Z-95.

Hell, I don't think J.J. knows what a Z-95 Headhunter is.

I think he does Actually.

I wonder how much of this is actually Disney Screwing this up as opposed to JJ since JJ won't be doing the other two movies.

Although I really don't care for JJ's Movies and Programs I do know he is a Star Wars fan truely.

From a design standpoint I must say the front, exhausts, wings and cockpit of the new one do look better. That is... as long as the wings don't go into the X configuration (which they don't seem to be able to do).
It also has waaay too much wear & tear.

Well, if it doesn't go into an X-configuration then it's not an X-Wing is it? :P

Where does it say it's an X-wing?

I looked around, and while a lot of articles seem to think it's an X-Wing that seems to be speculation. I can't find anything confirming it to be one.

But I did find the Clone Wars version of the Z-95 and it has a lot of similarities to this new fighter. Img2.wikia.nocookie.net

Hell, maybe it is supposed to be a new quad lasered Z-95

What the hell J.J.? Couldn't we have just learned our lesson from TCW's stupid looking Y-Wing, and realized that if something isn't broke don't fix it.
