A week full of asset fixing, internal build testing, and more!

Although we can't share much about the internal testing, some snippets and clips could make their way to our socials, so keep an eye out. As for the assets, don't we have some cool stuff happening for you today? Recent size corrections to assets, new pieces of "art" (sic) for the Abbey's halls, and our final version of the yeast propagation tank!

Let's get to it.

-- YPT AKA Yeast Propagation Tank

We have been working with this new piece of equipment for the monastery for a week now, and we were quite infatuated with its amazing looks. But we always felt like something was missing.

Thanks to a dea-ex-machina (shoutout to Jenny!), we quickly found out what was bothering us. The previous version had colors that would make it look out of place, a different setup from the other equipment, and almost looked sci-fi (with its egg-shaped containers).

With the new take, it looks a lot less steampunk-y (without missing that charm!) and more fitting to our late Middle Ages theme for Ale Abbey. By changing the shape of the containers it also happened to look a lot more practical rather than "out there."

For those with a keen eye, the containers do now look more like mason jars, which makes them far more realistic, and that's A-OK!

-- Paintings!

In the list of assets that nobody-thought-about-but-once-Raimo-breathed-life-onto-them we knew we had to have them, some new eclectic paintings will be designed to adorn Ale Abbey's halls.

We are still discussing all the potential versions of these paintings, from frame shape and color to the actual subject matter, but we have already landed a few good ones. And when we said eclectic, we did mean eclectic!

Also... behold a painting!

Now, onwards to not getting sued :D

-- Correcting assets

And, as is customary in development, one needs to revisit the pixels every once in a while to make sure they're not clipping around walls and other such amazing stories. It's breathtaking stuff, we know, but just look at what Emiliano's eye caught this week.

We couldn't be having a library overextending its splendor like this. And even if the difference seems minute, consider more of these hulking beasts in a room and what havoc they could cause. We're missing a weird Swedish-sounding name for that library by the way.

-- Mistakes were made! (Homebrewing edition: PART 1)

Homebrewing is part science and part cooking. Part science because you better be keeping tabs on temperatures and quantities, not to mention water treatment and yeast well-being. Cooking in the sense that you could mess something up gloriously, and yet you might be able to correct it to the point of salvaging the brew. Key word, "might."

Last week ended up being a bit wordier than intended, so we will be splitting this one into two parts, keeping the nail-biting other half for next week. So, part one of things you can actually correct:

  • Incorrect Gravity Readings: misreading the hydrometer/refractometer, leading to incorrect specific gravity measurements. Very easy to happen, especially under the stress of boiling wort bubbling for your attention.
Solution: If you catch this mistake before fermentation starts, remeasure and adjust your calculations for water or malt extract additions to reach the intended gravity. Post-fermentation adjustments might involve dilution or blending.
  • Missed Temperatures: which can cause the mash temperature to end up being too high or too low (to the point of completely messing up a stop).
Solution: If the mash temperature is too low, you can add boiling water to raise it. If it’s too high, add cold water or ice to lower it. Stir and remeasure until you reach the target temperature.
  • Forgot to Add Hops: missed hop addition during the boil (rare, but can happen).
Solution: If you realize this mistake within the boil time, add the hops as soon as possible. If the boil has ended, you could try making a hop tea by boiling the hops separately in water and adding it to the fermenter.

Another 3+1 mistakes you could potentially be able to correct, coming in our next Something's Brewing!

Until then, enjoy your weekend responsibly, and remember to join us next week for some more Ale Abbey news!

Hi! Yes they are, but due to past experiences, we would like to hit the steam page as soon as we have at least a first trailer, in order not to waste the few seconds of popularity of a new page! We will announce the steam page on all our pages anyway, FB, X, here, Discord, etc! We can't wait for people to play it too!! <3
