Grim Beasts is a series of prototypes for a physics based multiplayer fantasy party game with beasts and environmental hazards; examples of early tests include a frozen ice platform that fractures and breaks, a hostile cephalopod that brutalises a ship, a cave with collapsing rock pillars, and an exposed mountainside with erratic winds that can blow characters off rickety bridges. We currently plan to support Windows, OS X, and Linux. We will add support for the XBOX ONE and PS4 consoles if we can secure the necessary permissions (and if Unity support becomes available).
This looks a lot like gang beasts, are you planning to make a Beasts series or something like that?
We have prototyped three similar games, Grim Beasts (previously named Mythic Beasts), Gang Beasts, and Star Beasts, using the same character system we made for various game jams and events.
We currently plan to make them as a loosely related trilogy that have similar control schemes but play differently in significant ways i.e:
Gang Beasts is a urban street fighting game set in a fictional city (Beef City) and influenced by classic side-scrolling arcade fighting games (Crime Fighters, Double Dragon, Streets of Rage, Final Fight etc.), with predominantly unarmed mêlée fighting sequences.
Grim Beasts is a high-fantasy adventure game set in the world of Boneloafia (with bladed weapons, a physics based magic system, weather effects, and giant monsters) influenced by fantasy adventure games (Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Golden Axe, and Gauntlet etc.).
Star Beasts is a Space Opera set in a galaxy with planets that have varying levels of gravity influenced by the science fiction genre (Another World / Out of this World, Flashback, Fade to Black, Space Ace etc.) and will have ballistic and laser weapons, and alien species and other wildlife.
