I've been going around as a writer, but started getting drawn into Concept Art and 3D modeling. I'm currently finishing my studies as a 3D artist and will then be let loose on the world. Beware!
I made a quick specular map, which I can refine in the future. I am not sure if I'll do much more with this model though. I might just make the next house and plan ahead a little with its texturing. Now that I know it works, I also know what to be careful with. There are a few small errors in the texturing. That's because the shared space on the UV-map where a lot of parts of the house overlap. I can do better next time.
I'm guessing this is modular correct?
Very nice job... its got to be hard to make everything line up and snap together.
The snapping isn't that much of a problem, just start all your meshes with the first vertex on 0,0,0 position and work with a grid (64 units, 128 units, 255, 512...). The problem for me is often the required lightmap UV on a separate channel.
UDK tends to create artefacts on open edges and causes unnecessary seams there. So modular is a bit of a relative term to me. Only the side walls are separate, so you can form double house, single house or 4x block with it. They all share the same textures, so I need only one material.
